Jocelyn Roman, MD – Psychiatrist

Dr. Jocelyn Roman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a major in Biological Sciences and continued on to complete medical school at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School. There she was especially active in providing medical awareness and education to the Newark community through projects such as Community 2000 and APAMSA (Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association). It was in this setting that Dr. Roman found her passion for the field of psychiatry, specifically in the struggles of patient's with mental illness to obtain good medical care in a society that is only beginning to understand and accept psychiatric conditions as a real entity. She went on to further her psychiatric training at the St. Vincent Medical Centers in Manhattan where she was able to gain further experience in treating patients both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Dr. Roman's special interests lie in issues surrounding Women's Health, Young Adults, and the impact of culture on mental illness. However, she is able to treat a wide variety of psychiatric conditions with the emphasis on the patient-doctor alliance and mutual respect serving as as the guiding forces of her treatment style. Dr. Roman fluently speaks English and Tagalog (Filipino).
